It’s been too long
Hi friend!
I've been missing in action for months, neglecting this favoured corner of my world while I attend to other beloved parts of my life.
One of them, a big and bold project that my partner deemed “audacious”, given the fullness of my plate. History shows she was right.
We had a dozen thick, intimidating birth and parenting books in our house in the lead up to becoming parents.
I flicked through them.
And they seemed useful.
But not written for me.
They were about keeping a kid alive (which is critical).
Not the transformation I’d undergo (also important).
So I wrote one of my own.
I scrimped and stole the time to write a book, detailing everything about the first fifty days of being a dad.
The loneliness and late-night arguments.
The first nappy.
Naming debates.
Parents group.
Parental guilt.
Highs and lows.
All in real time.
No filter.
The result is Becoming Dad: An Honest Companion for New and Expecting Dads.
Most books about fatherhood are written from the other side of it, once the chaos has settled and the lessons feel tidy. Perez writes from inside the mess. The ‘Day in the Life’ you didn’t know you needed, this is a book that takes new dads seriously by not taking itself too seriously.

As newsletter friends of mine, my personal favourite cohort of humans, I wanted to tell you first.
You've supported me through Wednesday Waffle, Things I Wish I Knew, and every other idea I've had. I'll be forever grateful for that.
I’d love to invite you to pre-order a copy of Becoming Dad now:
- You can do that here my Australian mates
- Or here my International friends (these bookshops post internationally)
I'd be overjoyed if you ordered one for you, your partner, a friend, or an expecting dad in your life. Every pre-order does make a huge impact.
Either way, thank you for being here.
Now I’ve got some time back, you’ll be seeing more of me.
